McClure Engineering has had a leadership role in advancing the technology in comfort environmental systems. We authored the first commercially available diagnostic computer programs to analyze building energy consumption. Other innovations included variable air volume system designs in the late 1960’s, engine driven water source heat pumps with engine heat recovery, internal combustion engine cogeneration systems, one-pipe campus type chilled water systems and variable flow chilled water systems. The firm has a strong belief that energy conservation is an ethic that should permeate all aspects of mechanical and electrical system designs.

Board of Directors

Keith Cooper, P.E.
Chairman of the Board/Principal + Electrical Engineer
Since joining the firm in 1992, Keith Cooper has been responsible for electrical design for a variety of projects, including recreation centers, performance auditoriums, healthcare facilities, municipal buildings, medium voltage power distribution, university classroom buildings, data centers, central chilled/hot water plants, and building communications infrastructure. Keith has successfully led the firm as President since 2009. He received his B.S.E.E. from Notre Dame, holds a P.E. in more than 10 states and currently serves on the Electrical Board of Missouri and Illinois as Instructor and former Chairman. Keith is also an avid runner who has been instrumental in helping the firm become recognized as one of St. Louis’ Healthiest Employers.

Keith Esarey, P.E., LEED AP
President/Principal + Mechanical Engineer
Since joining the firm in 1997, Keith Esarey has been responsible for the design, start-up, and troubleshooting of a number of projects ranging from hospitals, universities, industrial plants and production facilities. Further, Keith provides design review, constructability and value engineering services for a number of architectural and construction management clients. Keith was named Principal of the firm in 2001. He received his B.S.M.E. and M.S.E.M. from Missouri University of Science and Technology, is a LEED Accredited Professional, holds his P.E. in more than 10 states, and is an active member of ASHRAE and IFMA. Keith is also committed to the on-going development of the firm’s talent and has organically grown dynamic teams of expert consultants which have strengthened the firm.

Eric Schactman, P.E.
CFO + Mechanical Engineer
Since joining the firm in 1995, Eric Schactman began his career with the firm as a Mechanical Engineer, working on projects including K-12 schools, equipment replacements, recreational centers and central plant system design. After receiving his MBA in 2000, Eric took on the role of CFO overseeing finance and accounting, human resources, information technology, office administration and marketing. He received his B.S.M.E. and M.S.M.E. from Washington University, his M.B.A. from the University of Maryland and holds his P.E. in the state of Missouri. Wearing many hats, Eric demonstrates his versatility by sitting on the Technology Committee, 401K Advisory Committee, Health & Wellness Committee and Volunteer Activities Committee.

Phil Wentz, P.E.
Principal + Electrical/Acoustical Engineer
Since joining the firm in 1998, Phil J. Wentz has engineered systems for architectural acoustics, stage rigging, theatrical lighting, power generation, electrical distribution, communication systems design, and building systems commissioning. Phil has conducted architectural acoustic evaluations and designs for venues including churches, recreations centers, theaters, auditoriums, multipurpose gyms, recording studios, and music rooms. He was promoted to principal in 2003. Phil received his B.S.E.E. from Missouri University of Science and Technology, holds his P.E. in two states, and has professional affiliations with ASA, ASHRAE, the Electrical Board of Missouri and Illinois and the Institute of Noise Control Engineering. The combination of Phil’s expertise and the firm’s state of the art measurement equipment has led to the quantification and resolution of acoustical issues with practical and cost effective measures.
